When did you join as staff of YSB?12/17/2002Why did you choose to work at YSB?Although I already had two part-time jobs, I believed I could take on an additional role. This opportunity allowed me to earn extra income while gaining valuable experience working with youth, which aligned with my goal of becoming a Juvenile Probation Officer.What other positions have you had in your career?I began my career at Richard’s Restaurant in Portland, where I worked my way up from dishwasher to grill cook and eventually window cook. I also gained experience working for Wilson Electric, Heating and Cooling. At YSB, I started as a Relief Direct Care Worker in the Residential Program, serving in that role for approximately a year and a half. I then led the Keeping At-Risk Students in School (KARSS) Program for nearly 10 years. During that time, I also worked within the Home-Based Program, providing services such as Fatherhood Engagement, Truancy Termination, Supervised Visitation, and Casework services. Afterward, I served for approximately six years as the Human Resources and Compliance Officer before being named Executive Director in July 2019.Where have you lived?I have lived in Jay County my entire life. They are so friendly and enthusiastic about working with families! We talked for over 30 minutes that day, and at the end of our conversation, they mentioned there was a job opening at YSBJC and that I should consider applying. It just so happened that I was looking for a job, since my program was closing in 6 weeks due to a lack of funding. I thought, "YSB sounds like an amazing YSB must be a great place to work, since Kristen and Bri work there." I researched the organization and we share the same passion for equipping with families practical tools and a supportive environment in which to heal and grow.What other positions have you had in your career?For the past 5 years I was Blackford High School's Jobs for America's Graduates program specialist/College and Career Explorations teacher-working with 11th and 12th graders facing major barriers to their successful completion of high school and transition to adulthood. I had 2 friends that were working at YSB and let me know about a summer job as Recreation Coordinator for Residential Care. This lined up with the degree I was pursuing. What other positions have you had in your career?The majority of my jobs have been at the YSB working between Residential, Emergency Care, and Healthy Families. I did work one year as a Home and School Advisor thru the Jay School Corporation and as a substitute teacher. Where have you lived?Besides leaving town for college (West Lafayette), I have resided in Portland.
