Youth Service Bureau 2022 - #WhyILoveYSB

What is #WhyILoveYSB?

Youth Service Bureau is proud to share our #WhyILoveYSB campaign! At YSB, our mission is built upon forging and strengthening relationships, while helping our clients reach their greatest potential. For over 40 years, the YSB has been supported in this mission by our passion-driven team members and local supporters, who have all given their time and resources to assist children and families in our community and across our state.

With our #WhyILoveYSB campaign, we’re presenting you with stories and testimony from our own YSB family, both past and present. We’re also inviting our local community supporters and past clients to share their experiences with YSB, and to speak to the impact it has made on their lives.

For our team members, the greatest reward is knowing they’ve helped their clients overcome personal obstacles and made a difference in the lives of others. During the campaign, we hope you enjoy reading these testimonies, and we encourage you to share your own!

To share your own experiences with the YSB, tag us on Facebook (@ysbjc) or Twitter (@ysbjc), and be sure to include the hashtag #WhyILoveYSB!

Our TEAM

What led you to your role at the YSB?
It started for me as a part-time Direct Care Worker in our Residential Program. After about a year in that program I moved into a full-time position as the Keeping At Risk Students in School (KARSS) Program Coordinator. I held that position for about 10 years and did some work in our Home-based Programming during that time as well. After that I became the Human Resource and Compliance Office until stepping into the role of Executive Director three years ago.
What are your favorite parts of your role and the YSB team?
While in college I was not 100% on what I wanted to do for a career, but it did not take long at the YSB to figure out my path included helping others. Through my various roles at the YSB having the ability to help others has definitely been my favorite part of working here! I have also been fortunate enough over the years to come into contact with a number of amazing co-workers and clients. Spending time and building relationships with them has been a very enjoyable part of my time here as well!
What stands out to you about the culture at the YSB?
What stands out to me the most is that no matter how difficult or how painful the situation the employees here will always step up and help each other out, both to the benefit of the client and to each other. Over the years we have faced some very difficult situations, but we have overcome each one thanks to the dedication and passion of those who work at the YSB!
Personal Thoughts:
Helping others is extremely rewarding work, but it is no secret that this line of work can also be very difficult and draining. We are always looking for good people who want to help create better situations for those we serve to join our team! If interested in employment or if you just want to know more about what we do, please don't hesitate to reach out!
PJ Corwin
Executive Director
What led you to your role at the YSB?
In 1998 I was new to the area and in need of a job, I saw an ad in the newspaper and decided to apply for a part-time position in the Residential facility, two weeks later I was hired for full-time work.
What are your favorite parts of your role and the YSB team?
I have many favorite memories working in all of the various programs over the years, however, what I enjoy most is the sense of "family" in each of the programs. Co-workers support each other and believe in the values and mission of the YSB making it a great place to work. Outside of the co-workers, it is an amazing feeling knowing we are making a difference in someone's life, sometimes those impacts are not immediately recognized, but we later learn about our impact when residents and other program participants reach out to us and share how we influenced, improved, supported and believed in them accomplishing personal goals.
What stands out to you about the culture at the YSB?
In my opinion, YSB has a culture of family...both within the agency between co-workers and with the clients we work with.
